Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Foreign Language Keyboard work?
The tool renders Unicode character grids for 8 writing systems. Clicking a character appends it to a text builder. For alphabetic scripts like Cyrillic and Greek, a visual QWERTY-mapped keyboard layout is also available showing which keys correspond to which foreign characters. All processing is client-side using standard Unicode code points.
Which languages are supported?
Latin Extended (French, Spanish, German, Scandinavian, Portuguese, Turkish, Polish), Russian Cyrillic, Modern Greek, Arabic (with diacritics and Eastern numerals), Hebrew (with nikud vowel points), Japanese (Hiragana and Katakana), Korean (Jamo consonants and vowels), and Chinese (common characters organized by category).
Can I search for characters by romanization?
Yes. Japanese characters can be searched by romaji (e.g., type "ka" to find the hiragana and katakana for ka). Chinese characters can be searched by pinyin or English meaning (e.g., "shui" for water or "hello" for greeting-related characters).
Does it support right-to-left scripts?
Yes. Arabic and Hebrew text displays correctly right-to-left in the builder. Arabic characters automatically show contextual forms (initial, medial, final) when adjacent, handled natively by the browser's Unicode rendering engine.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. No text is transmitted anywhere. You can use this tool completely offline once the page has loaded.
