Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Reading Time Estimator work?

The tool counts words by splitting text on whitespace, then divides by the configured words-per-minute rate (default ~238 WPM for reading, ~130 WPM for speaking) to produce a time estimate in minutes and seconds. It also counts sentences by detecting sentence-ending punctuation (.!?) and paragraphs by counting double-newline separations.

What reading speed is used?

The default is 200-250 words per minute, which is the average adult silent reading speed. You can adjust the WPM to match your personal reading speed for a more accurate estimate.

Does it estimate speaking time too?

Yes. Speaking is typically slower than reading (about 130-150 WPM for presentations). The tool can estimate both reading and speaking duration for your text.

What other stats does it show?

Word count, sentence count, paragraph count, and character count alongside the time estimate. Useful for blog posts, presentations, and meeting preparation.
