How does the Words to Minutes Calculator work?
The tool counts words by splitting on whitespace boundaries, then divides the total by your configured words-per-minute rate (default ~238 WPM for reading, ~130 WPM for speaking). The result is converted to minutes and seconds. You can also enter a word count directly and the tool applies the same division to produce the time estimate.
What reading speed does it use?
The default is 200-250 words per minute for reading and about 130 WPM for speaking. You can adjust the WPM to match your personal pace or your audience.
Is this accurate for presentations?
Yes. For speeches and presentations, use the speaking time estimate at 130 WPM. This accounts for natural pauses, emphasis, and audience engagement that slow spoken delivery compared to silent reading.
